The Ordinary’s Slowvember Black Friday Sale Is Anything But Ordinary

One of my dear friends texted me that she would murder for skincare brand The Ordinary, and that I had to write about its Black Friday sale.

The Ordinary has gained a cult following thanks to its affordability, so when I received this text, I was extremely confused. I couldn’t image a brand dipping its prices even lower. What about the profit margin?!

This isn’t a worry of The Ordinary’s, however, because they know people will scoop that shit up in an instant.

So, how did The Ordinary become a necessity in so many people’s skincare routines? It’s simple: it’s damn good.

The Ordinary is beneath umbrella brand DECIEM. But even I didn’t know that, because “The Ordinary” has become the iconic name, not “DECIEM’s The Ordinary.”

DECIEM is made up of specialists in chemistry and biochemistry who have worked to develop innovative skincare technologies for The Ordinary, as well as their core brands, Hylamide and NIOD. They believe that you can never go too far when it comes to making skincare that does its job well.

As their website explains, “The brand was created to celebrate integrity in its most humble and true form. … The Ordinary is born to disallow commodity to be disguised as ingenuity. The Ordinary is ‘Clinical formulations with integrity.’”

The Ordinary gained a cult following because of how well its products work, and that was its key marketing strategy. There were no celebrity-filled commercials or billboards around the world. The Ordinary made effective products that spoke for themselves, and they continue to do that. And with all that moolah saved, they can keep their prices down, which, in turn, increases their consumer-base.

It’s a cycle. A smart, smart cycle.

The Ordinary’s Products

I mentioned technologies. But… what technologies?

Look into the products, and you’ll find the examples. In their “Buffet” peptide serum, they offer technologies such as peptide complexes with palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 and acetyl hexapeptide-8 combined with a base of hyaluronic acid complexes. (In real people’s terms: palmitoyl tetrapeptide- 7 is an anti-aging combination of amino acids, while acetyl hexapeptide-8 is a peptide nicknamed “Botox in a jar.”)

Or browse their Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA cream’s formula, which is a collection of 11 amino acids, fatty acids, triglycerides, ceramides, and oh-so-much more to fully hydrate your skin.

Simply put: The Ordinary puts in work to make sure your skincare works. And we love them for it.

On top of this, their website is beyond informative. Each product has the pH range; whether it’s water-, gluten-, alcohol-, oil-, silicone-, nut-, and cruelty-free; and if it’s vegan or not. This way, you know exactly what you’re putting on your body before you purchase it, especially when you’re feeling lost in technical jargon.

Now, The Ordinary is ending November (aka Slowvember) with their highly-anticipated Black Friday sale, with products down to ~$5… or less. These are the less-than-$6 products you want to get your hands on before they’re gone, just so you can say “I snagged The Ordinary for less than a frappe.” It’s a humble brag. We see you, and we appreciate it.

Lactic Acid 10% + HA

the ordinary lactic acid black friday

Lactic acid is an exfoliator, and this 10% solution is fairly mild on the skin. Add in purified Tasmanian pepperberry to fight inflammation and skin sensitivity post-exfoliation, and you have a formula that will roughen-and-soothe all on its own.

BUY NOW – $5.24

Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

the ordinary NIACINAMIDE and ZINC

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, which helps fight acne and dark spots. Zinc salt balances out the high-dose 10% concentration, leveling out excess oil without drying out your skin. Just make sure you alternate timing of vitamin C applications, because niacinamide can lessen C’s effect.

BUY NOW – $4.54

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

the ordinary hyaluronic acid and B5 for black friday

Hyaluronic acid is used for hydration, but did you know that HA is too large of a molecule to adequately penetrate skin with hydration, so it sits on the skin instead? ~Science.~ The Ordinary combines multiple molecular weights of multiple forms of HA to fix this, so the formula can hydrate on every (skin) level.

BUY NOW – $5.24

The Ordinary 100% L-Ascorbic Acid Powder

L ASCORBIC acid the ordinary

L-Ascorbic Acid is filled with vitamin C, so this powder will brighten skin, reduce uneven tones, and stop fine lines and potential wrinkles in their tracks. It’s a powerful anti-aging formula, and it can cause tingling during the first 1-2 weeks of use. It’s worth it, says it’s 4.6 stars – just be careful not to use with Niacinamide/EUK 134 to avoid lessening efficacy of the pure vitamin C solution.

BUY NOW – $4.47

AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

the ordinary AHA and BHA peeling solution for black friday

AHAs exfoliate, even, and brighten, while BHAs fight clogged pores – and don’t forget the hyaluronic acid crosspolymer. The 30%/2% AHA/BHA formula exfoliates intensely, banishing blemishes both visible and potential, while also giving you a glow. Tasmanian pepperberry helps fight the aggressive nature of multiple acids, and combined with toning black carrot and moisturizing B5, your skin will look even and fine lines will be minimized.

BUY NOW – $5.54

Marine Hyaluronics

the ordinary marine hyaluronic acid

If you hear “Marine” and “Hyaluronics” in the same sentence, you know “hydration” is somewhere in the description. The marine comes from its ocean-based composition, including marine bacteria and Hawaiian red algae, and a ton of amino acids. Everything is sourced sustainably, so enjoy this guilt-free.
