I Went To Sephora To Have My Skin Matched To Fenty’s Foundation

With “Next-Day Delivery” apps like Shipt, and local craft markets expanding to include beauty products, I honestly cannot even remember the last time I wandered into a Sephora to buy makeup. So wandering down its aisles and having a Fenty foundation matched to my skin tone? Magic. Here’s my experience!

Truth be told, I have never really been the “makeup” type (despite being a co-founder of this very website), yet I have been a consumer since I was a preteen; you know, experimenting with purple eyeshadows and orange foundations… all the typical awkward-teen-stuff.

Eventually, I found my daily products and stuck with them because they worked, were low-budget and available at any local drugstore. However, as I have gotten older, I’ve realized that there are so many products out there that would be better suited for my skin type and color, addressing my undertones like the drugstore brands just didn’t. So when I finished the last of my trusty E.L.F. Foundation, I headed to my local Sephora to see what they had to offer.

So. Many. Products. I was in shock as I walked through their storefront, immediately greeted by three of their makeup artists. After I explained my situation, Erin (one of the three) led me to the Fenty foundation section, where I would find a plethora of products that would suit my needs. After a quick discussion about my skin type being a combination of dry and oily, she proceeded to help color match the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation to my skin after explaining that my undertones were cool and neutral – very good information to know!

The Fenty foundation went on buttery smooth, best applied with a brush. I really like how it was a full-coverage foundation and meant it, covering every blemish and uneven tone.

“The Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. This oil-free soft matte foundation is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are, it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this light-as-air, longwear  Pro Filt’r foundation is undetectable on skin so you always look like you.” – Fenty’s Website

At the end, I was split between two foundation colors that were very close in color. After considering I will be tanner this summer (I hope), I chose the slightly warmer and darker of the tones, which was shade 200, light-medium-to-pink undertones.

Not everyone can be color-matched by a pro like Erin, but Fenty has a Shade Finder on their website so you can match your skin tone digitally. I was a bit skeptical, so I tried it myself to see what shade it would recommend. Lo and behold, it was a direct for the lighter of the two shades I tried! I was astonished- Rihanna, well done.

A little goes a long way with this product, so even though it is more expensive than what I am used to spending, I anticipate this bottle will last me twice as long as my typical drugstore brand. Plus, it comes in a glass bottle that can be recycled, which makes me feel better about the purchase.

With all that said, the real win is the fact that Fenty changed the foundation game by offering the widest range of shades, making it the most inclusive foundation range yet – and here at QUILL, we are all about inclusion because beauty is for everybody!
